It’s All About Getting Just The Right Mix… |

Don’t get me wrong. This site IS about offering exceptional quality custom home design work. (For the same price that you would oftentimes end up paying for some standard off-the-shelf stock plans elsewhere with a few changes being needed to make it really what you want! I’ll share that story later – if you’ll allow me too.

But designing a home is so much more than just cranking out a workable set of drawings. It’s even more than just bridging the gap between the client’s thoughts and the final set of plans.
Properly designing your home is like making fine wine …
You pick all the fruit you think you need. Then carefully evaluate what you picked and select only the choicest pieces that will add to the overall quality of the end result. If you don’t have enough quality pieces you go back and get some more.
Next you carefully measure all the ingredients and mix them properly together.
Then, you put the mixture into a properly prepared container.
At this point the fermenting process kicks in as the ingredients react to each other and begin working together to create the much desired end result.
In case you’re not familiar with wine-making, let me explain the fermenting process more clearly:
Yeast is used as a catalyst that creates the active force causing all the ingredients to blend correctly together. In this stage the “working together” or “fermenting” creates gases that need to be vented in an appropriate matter.
Improper venting – too much or too little – minimizes the full potential of the end result. You end up with a bunch of YUCK! A poor imitation of what you really wanted.
Brewing your home design properly is no different...
As a designer my job is to serve as the proper vent to allow your ideas to blend together just right. It’s all about building up a warm relationship of trust that purposely works through the process of effectively combining all the necessary ingredients as well as those you desire for just the perfect taste.
Any ingredient in a recipe has an overall effect on the final outcome. Quality, quantity, and type of ingredient all play a major role.

The biggest challenge most of my clients faced was the unavailability of systematic home design strategies.
Almost without fail – in the first several meetings with new clients – the questions I asked them required scheduling another meeting with me. They had to go home and spend several days figuring out what they needed or wanted in important areas of their design. Areas they hadn’t known to think about. Each additional meeting meant the clock was ticking on my billable time. Which meant a larger bill for their final set of plans!
And I can’t (and don’t) blame them! If designing homes was not my career and passion then there’s no way I’d know the finer points of it either.
